“I began deejaying at the age of 15 and it quickly became a passion for me; I love to see how I can incorporate different music styles into my sets. The decks in Karokan are my favourite place in the Resort,” says Karokan team member and the Resort’s resident DJ, Ashley Gai.

As part of the entertainment activities on offer to children from age 10, Karokan has its own DJ booth on its first floor and it is here that Ashley is able to not only enjoy one of his favourite pastimes, but also where he is able to teach any young, budding DJs the essential skills.

“Over Christmas we ran a competition at the Resort to search for the best young DJ talent. I ran a number of 30 minute sessions with the kids in the days before the event and it was so much fun to see how they developed and gained both knowledge and confidence. When it came to the actual competition, I was amazed at how well all of the kids did – seeing them share in my passion was great.”

The DJ booth is just one of the activities on offer at Karokan, where the weekly activity programme also includes table tennis tournaments, beach football, sailing and golf initiations. “There is something for everyone in our programme of activities and the team and I are often seen escorting the kids around to different places in the Resort to explore and try out something new. However, as much as football and watersports are great – especially when there is a group, there are not many places that have their own DJ booth, so it’s a privilege for me to help the kids try this out.”

Under Ashley’s supervision, each young, budding DJ has the chance to learn mixing steps and to master new tricks, with the option to record new tracks to take away.

All year round, Karokan is open daily from 10:00 am to 11:00 pm. Further family amenities include a Hobbit Village Kids’ Club, a choice of watersports in the Resort’s protected lagoon waters, children’s menus in all three restaurants and spacious pool villas that range from one to five bedrooms.
